On behalf of the Cape Cod Whalers organization, we congratulate Whaler Evan Zhang on his commitment to Harvard. At Harvard, Evan will join Ben Merrill, Sean Keohane and Michael Callow while playing for former Whaler coach Ted Donato. Throughout his time with the Whalers and Roxbury Latin Evan has been steady between the pipes and a consistent positive presence around his teammates.

Evan has had quite the three-year run with the Whalers, appearing in 47 games with a 2.67 GAA, highlighted by his 15O season, which saw him post a 2.12GAA. When asked about his play, former Coach Mike Ciarletta stated “Evan Zhang is a consummate hard worker, and fantastic at what he does. A coach's dream, Evan doesn’t seek personal glory over team goals, he simply comes to the rink and stops pucks with a quiet smile. Evan will undoubtedly go very far in life.” Evan continued his strong play through his second and third year with the organization, picking up where he left off with stellar campaigns that saw him average 31 games with a 2.75 GAA. When asked about Evan’s ability and impact, U18 Coach Brian Gibbons stated “A great young man and teammate who always has a smile on his face. His elite athleticism and ability to read the play allow him to make difficult saves look routine. A great competitor that never gives up on that play. His high work ethic will allow him to continue to develop and improve”

Evan has also been a stalwart throughout his time with Roxbury Latin, where he has starred for the past three seasons, setting aside 30+ shots on 16 occasions, with many opportunities to add to this total. Head Coach Dave Cataruzolo stated “Physically, Evan combines athleticism and flexibility with a technical approach to the position that allows him to thrive between the pipes.  What amazes me most, however, is his resilience and work ethic.  He is constantly working on his craft and never, EVER gets rattled.  He is a 'pulse player,' as the intensity and pressure of a game increases, the more controlled and composed he becomes. Evan is so much more than just an exceptional goalie.  He is well-respected among his peers and has emerged as a leader in our locker this year.  Outside of hockey, he has completely immersed himself in the Roxbury Latin community as a member of the varsity lacrosse team and as a lead singer in the school's acapella group, the Latonics.  Evan is a special player and an even better person and I am extremely proud of him.” when asked about his star goalie.

We look forward to seeing Evan’s continued growth, presence, and ease that has made him the consummate teammate throughout his young career.
