The Cape Cod Whalers would like to congratulate alum Matty Beniers on winning the NHL's Calder Trophy. Beniers was the first-ever draft selection for the Seattle Kraken and the #2nd overall pick in the 2021 draft, the highest draft selection in Whalers history. 

After playing two seasons at the University of Michigan, where he scored 67 points in 61 contests, Beniers joined the Kraken and has proven to be one of the NHL's best two-way centers. In his first NHL season, Beniers scored 24 goals with 33 assists for 57 points while helping the Kraken reach the playoffs for the first time in the franchise's brief history. We look forward to Matty continuing his success at the NHL level in year two.
