Whaler Sean Keohane has been on many people's radars heading into this season. Keohane has opted to stay and play this fall at Dexter Southfield instead of playing for the Tri-City Storm. This past spring, Keohane was taken in the third round, 38th overall, by Tri-City Storm at the USHL Phase II Draft.  When I asked Sean about this choice to stay at Dexter Southfield, he explained, “I felt it was not only the right decision to develop on and off the ice, but also the chance to get one last shot at an Elite 8 with my teammates and coaches. We have unfinished business and to be able to get one last shot at this is very important to our team, and I want to be a part of it.”

This is not an unfamiliar course of action for players that surround Keohane. Whaler alums Ryan Donato and Jack Rathbone stayed for their senior years at Dexter Southfield before moving on to their college and professional careers.

Sean is committed to Harvard University to play Division 1 hockey. He will join a long list of Whalers, including Will Hughes, Bobby Landry, Michael Callow, and Ian Moore. Sean is projected to play for Harvard after his time with the Tri-City Storm next season. Sean is looking forward to playing at the next level. “The USHL is such a good league, so to have an opportunity in Tri-City is something I'm excited to go out there and compete with so many great players.”

As for this fall, Keohane will focus on playing a split season with the U18 squad, coached by Dave Franzosa. When I asked Franzosa about his experience coaching Keohane, he said, “I have coached Sean for years, and he has been a pleasure to coach. Great kid, great player, great family. Sean has consistently gotten better and better every year, and this is because of his approach on and off the ice. His work ethic, positive attitude, size, toughness, and hockey sense make him a difference-maker in all three zones. I truly believe that, even though Sean’s trajectory in the sport has risen year over year, his best hockey is still ahead of him.”

This year is Sean’s fourth season with the Cape Cod Whalers, and he has said nothing but good things about his time with the organization. “Having the chance to play for the Whalers has been unbelievable. Growing up seeing all the top local prep guys playing for this program has made it top-notch since the beginning. I’ve met a lot of great coaches and people since the beginning. I've met a lot of great coaches and people since my U15 year, and they've been nothing but the best at developing and coaching our teams to success. Incredible experience all around, and we are hoping to go out on top come November in the state tournament.”  This season Sean has played in four games, scoring one goal and one assist. The U18 squad will be playing Mount St. Charles this Saturday, the 24th, at 3:00 pm, at Foxboro Sports Center.
